Juts a couple of days ago Greek tech website HwBox, in conjunction with GIGABYTE organized an Overclocking meetup where many of Greece’s most respected and feared Overclockers congregated to get down to some serious benching. Among those invited to the showcase event were several of the Greece team that managed to claim a remarkable win in the HWBOT Country Cup just a month or so ago. The idea was to make as many record scores as possible leveraging the newly launched Intel Kaby Lake architecture CPUs, plus some older AMD Radeon graphics cards, a strategy that furnished team HwBox with several Hardware First Place ranked scores by the end of the meetup.
HwBox.gr is without doubt one of the prominent tech and PC component websites in the Greek language Internet. The site regularly hosts and promotes Overclocking activities in Greece and is supportive of Overclocking in the country as a whole. The Overclocking Gathering event was hosted at the HwBox offices in Piraeus, a port city in the Attica region of Greece, and was sponsored by GIGABYTE who helped provide Z270 motherboards for the event.
In attendance were many of Greece’s most respected Oveclockers, including a few faces that may not be active benchers today, harking back to the origins of Greek Overclocking. The attendee list included Phil, mortisboy, Demac, Firekiller, kintaro, varachio, $@39@, Gorillakos, MetallicGR, Astalavista, AMDnord, storm1978, greekphantom and others – pretty much a who’s who list of the most important Overclockers in the country.
As key event sponsors GIGABYTE provided a great introduction to the new Z270 platform from Intel, giving all Greek masters at the event a chance to get to know the GIGABYTE Z270X-Gaming-SOC motherboard. Coupled with the latest Intel Core i7 77700K processors, the was plenty of LN2 on hand for the gathering.
After a fun weekend of Extreme Overclocking, several attendees managed to submit scores that would gain points as Hardware First Place rankings. These included scores and submissions from OGS, mortisboy, Greek Phantom and Sofos1990. Using a mix of Radeon HD 5970, Radeon HD 5870, Radeon HD 5770 cards, plus Radeon HD 4870 and R9 270X cards the gathering turned out to be a veritable points harvest for the HwBox Hellas Team, of which all attendees are a member.
Greek Phantom manged to make Hardware First Place scores in Aquamark and 3DMark05 using an R9 270X cards, while OGS made eight Hardware First Place scores using Radeon HD 5870 and HD 4870 cards and mortisboy claimed a further four Hardware First Places armed with a Radeon HD 5870 card. It was Sofos1990 however who arguably stole the show with a total of eight Hardware First Placed scores, plus a Global First Place score for a dual GPU setup in the 3DMark05 rankings with a score of 75,999 marks using a Core i7 7700K pushed to 6,500MHz (+54.76%) and a pair of Radeon HD 5970 cards pushed to 900MHz (+24.14%) / 1,200MHz (+20.00%). Well done Sofos!
